Autumn has finally Fallen here in the Pacific Northwest
(see what I did there? :P)
Now, I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things about the colder seasons is the plethora of delicious, warming and oh-so comforting foods that go along with them.
Pumpkin Pie, Apple Cider, Cornbread, Roasted Veggies, Cinnamon-flavored everything….and APPLE SAUCE!
Every year I make a bucket list full of fun & festive activities to celebrate Fall & this year making apple sauce was the first order of business.
I usually go to the store or my local farmer’s market and grab a variety of different apples (usually a big bag of all the ones that are the same price) BUT this year I decided to use only one kind of apple (the kind off the tree in my yard) & it turned out equally as delicious.
So, use whatever apples you’d like!
Just make sure you don’t forget the most important ingredient…LOVE.
6-10 medium apples
1-2 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp Cinnamon (more if you’d like)
1/2 tsp salt (optional- I don’t find it necessary)
1- Peel apples and cut them into small chunks (leave them a bit bigger if you like your applesauce chunky)
2- Place the apple chunks in a large pot on the stove over medium heat
3- Add the lemon juice, cinnamon & salt
4- Stir until all the apple chunks are coated
5- Cook uncovered until the apples begin to become soft & break apart, stirring regularly
6- Once the apples appear to be more sauce than apple, turn the heat to low & cover with a lid
7- Let cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally
8- Remove from heat, let cool & enjoy!
